Unique Student Identifier

Do I need a USI?

Yes, you will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI) if you are enrolling in nationally recognised training. A USI is required for all students undertaking accredited training and allows your training records and qualifications to be securely stored and accessed online.

If you do not already have a USI, you can create one before enrolling. Our team can also assist you if you need help obtaining your USI.

What is a USI?

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a personal reference number required for anyone undertaking nationally recognised training in Australia. Your USI allows your training records and qualifications to be securely stored in one place and accessed throughout your lifetime, making it easy to view and share your training history when needed.

How to get a USI

It is free and easy for you to create your own USI online.

While you may create your own USI, training organisations are also able to create a USI for you. Training organisations should do this as part of the enrolment process when you begin studying. Where this service is provided, training organisations will let you know.

Creating a USI is quick and easy:

Step 1 – Visit the USI Website

Go to the USI website at usi.gov.au.

Step 2 - Click "Create a USI"

Select the “Create a USI” button and follow the prompts to get started.

Step 3 - Have Your Identification Ready

You will need a valid form of identification, such as a Driver Licence, Medicare Card, Australian Passport, or Birth Certificate.

Step 4 - Enter Your Personal Details

Enter your details exactly as they appear on your identification. This helps ensure your training records are linked correctly.

Step 5 - Create Your USI

Follow the remaining prompts to create your USI. The process only takes a few minutes to complete.

Step 6 – Save Your USI

Once your USI has been created, save it somewhere safe and provide it to Training & Personnel Australia when enrolling in your course.

Important: The details used to create your USI must match your identification exactly. Incorrect details may delay your enrolment or certification.
